Seedless lemons planting features in Vietnam (Part 1)
Date Submitted: 2 năm trước

Seedless lemon, also known as quarter lemon, originated in the US state of California. This lemon tree variety is strange in that it has absolutely no seeds. When you add it, you will only see juicy lemon cloves lying stacked on top of each other. In addition, another name is four-quarter lemon because this lemon produces fruit all year round. An outstanding advantage that few lemons have.

The seedless lemon is about 6 cm in diameter, compared to the lemon (Citrus aurantifolia) it is larger, seedless, harder, the stem does not have thorns or small thorns, the fruit forms bunches, the skin is thin, the juice is less acidic and does not have a bitter taste like lemon.

Features of lemon farming in the Mekong Delta

Seedless lemons grow quickly, after planting about 12-15 months begin to bear fruit. In the conditions of the Mekong Delta, lemons can bear fruit all year round. Business exploitation period is over 10 years.

The phenomenon of leaf twisting on seedless lemons is now quite common on lemon orchards grown in the Mekong Delta, the occurrence rate is about 3-5%. However, this phenomenon has not been studied much.

But as noted in production practice, the disease is more likely to be transmitted through breeding material. Infected plants have the phenomenon of leaves curling, wavy, in many cases veins emerged, brittle leaves.

The plant only shows symptoms after planting for 1-2 years. These infected plants often produce a lot of cotton but do not bear fruit.

Solutions to grow lemons on alkaline soil in Vietnam

Seedless lemons can be grown on alkaline soils, but to be effective, some of the following technical measures should be noted:

a. Root grafting

For alum-contaminated soils, the indicators of the usefulness of nutrient elements and pH are low. Therefore, choosing a rootstock that can overcome the limitations of alum-contaminated soil is a prerequisite for the best growth of plants.

b. Coupler

Choosing disease-free transplanted eyes is also a prerequisite for seedless lemon garden success. The mother plant used for propagation must ensure that it has all the characteristics of the original variety in terms of phenotype and fruit quality. The grafting boron must be obtained from a recognized oil orchard and free from dangerous pests.

When choosing a source of mother plants to propagate seedless lemons, it is necessary to pay attention to the phenomenon of leaf twisting on lemons.

c. Potential alum frequency exploration drilling

In the process of designing a seedless lemon garden from rice or vegetable soil, soil drilling to explore the potential alum depth is crucial. Pinpointing the location will help the gardener not to introduce the potential alum layer into an active alum that harms the roots of plants.

The process of drilling the surface of the soil requires specialized tools. If it is a potential alum layer, it will react with H2O2 to produce H2S gas that discolors the purple litmus paper.
